Tonight I met up with some friends at a local cafe. We had a great time and I decided to hang out a little longer even after they had left. As I pulled out my laptop, I overheard the table across the way from me speaking about something that caught my ear.
As I listened (discretely) I realized it was a group of women who were meeting to have a little Bible study. Unbeknownst to them, the words they shared were encouraging me and then it made me think. Maybe the same words that encouraged me will encourage you.
I heard one woman saying that sometimes hearing from God is like shining a flashlight into a dark room. When you turn a flashlight on, you can see what’s in front of you, but not the entire room. Likewise, God often shows us what’s in front of us and where to step next, but He doesn’t usually give us the full picture.
There are times in life when we want the whole picture, or at least, we think we do. I’m thankful that God in His all-knowing nature knows better than to show me the whole picture, because I for sure would be overwhelmed and stressed out. Instead, He gives me just enough knowledge to know where to go and gently guides me step by step.
Maybe you’ve been in a place in your life where you’re wondering what the next step is or maybe you’ve complained to God that He isn’t giving you the whole picture. And maybe He’s asking for you to trust Him. Maybe He’s asking for you to take hold of His hand and allow Him to guide you into something that’s beyond your wildest dreams.
For me, tonight was a beautiful reminder that God cares. It was a reminder that I’m not the only one who questions things at times and that He is even nearer to me than I sometimes realize.
Reader, whether you believe in His existence or not, it doesn’t change who He is. It doesn’t change that He loves you. He wants to give you more than you can imagine or achieve for yourself, but He’s patiently waiting for you to invite Him to be a part of your life.
As one of the women at the other table just said, “It’s never too early to accept Him, but in a moment it could be too late.”
Don’t wait, friend. He’s waiting to show you a purpose that only you can fulfill – don’t wait until it’s too late.
