Yesterday, a friend called me on the phone. I answered and the first words out of her mouth were, “I hope it’s okay I’m calling you instead of texting.” I responded with, “Of course it’s okay!” as we continued our conversation. That brief exchange has me thinking more deeply though about an apparent issue in our culture. In our world of Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, GroupMe, WhatsApp, and texting, we rarely have audible conversations.
When was the last time you picked up the phone and called a friend?
So today, I challenge you. If you’ve got Bluetooth in your car, call a friend on your way to or from work. If not, then take time on your lunch break or after your workday to call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.
Let’s stop hiding behind technology and go back to being truly relational.
Taking the challenge? I’d love to know how it goes and how you felt during the challenge. Share in the comments below!
