One Word Changed A Life

Screen shot 2015-09-07 at 10.36.15 PMIn a recent post, I mentioned that our family had recently grown, as we had welcomed in a second foster child into our home.

When we first received the call, our initial reaction was to say no. We already had one foster child and felt that with all of our schedules, trying to manage two would be difficult at best. Nonetheless, we spoke about it as a family and went to bed that night with the same sentiment: Someone else will say yes.

The next morning I awoke, and still had this toddler on my mind. Who will take her in? Will they find a home for her? What if they don’t? Then what?

At the breakfast table, my mom looked at me and said 6 words to our family: Do you think we should reconsider?

I looked at her in bewilderment. I thought I was the only one still thinking about this little one. Suddenly excitement, nervousness, and inner thoughts asking if we were crazy to consider this, began. We agreed we needed to call the Division and ask more questions.

In the past, we had been asked to take more children in, and there were times we had to say no. But for some reason, this was different. This one stayed in our hearts and minds.

We called and came to find out that 21 other families had been contacted, all of whom for some reason or another were unable to take this child in. In that moment, we knew. God was very clearly showing us that He agreed with the statement we had made the night before. Someone will say yes.

And that someone, was us.

She arrived at our home a few days later, and to say we are already in love with her is an understatement. She’s a little bundle of laughter and joy and has made our world fuller. You’ve already heard me share some of the experiences I’ve had with her in just the short time she’s been with us. I can already tell she’ll be one of the ones who will take a piece of my heart with her, when the time comes for her to be reunited with her family.

Sometimes we justify to ourselves saying no, because we’re all under the misconception that someone will say yes. But what if that someone is supposed to be you? What happens if YOU are the one God is calling to say yes?

Twenty-one families said no to this precious little one. I’m so thankful we were the one that said yes.

Be the one for someone in your life, reader. One person can change their world.
