The fact that the Supreme Court ruling was 5-4 goes to show how divided our nation still is on the subject of same-sex marriage. I’m not looking for a debate, and those of you know me know my thoughts. I can still love you as a person and disagree with you respectfully – the same way some of you may do with me.
Let’s all remember that regardless of our beliefs, it’s never okay to name call or degrade others. It pains me to see how each side is ripping each other apart. What does that do? It causes more division and spreads more hate.
If you call yourself a Christian, then show love, not hate. The mantra I’ve been hearing all day is “love wins.” Love draws people to you – hate pushes them away. Love says the truth, though it may hurt, because love wants what is best for you.
Regardless of what side you’re on in this debate, remember that hate didn’t get us anywhere. We can disagree, but we can do it respectfully and with dignity. Trying to take someone else’s dignity by calling them every name in the book only does one thing – it shows how little respect you have yourself.
Be at peace with those around you – love them where they’re at. We can disagree wholeheartedly, but the moment you turn a debate into a dialogue of hate, you automatically lose.
The golden rule still applies friends: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
